DETACHMENT & ATTACHMENT

( AN EXPERIENTIAL INSTALLATION)

How will humans react to the transfer of consciousness outside their physical body as a long built nervous connection will be rewired: confused, surprised, insecure, or reassured that they exist?

The artwork that inspired this digital experiential installation is a portrait sculpture of Augustus, the first Roman emperor (e. 27 BCE - 14 CE).

While partaking in Detachment & Attachment, users will wear the camera-infused backpack and goggles attached to a phone screen, pre-connected via bluetooth. The screen will livestream the camera’s POV, allowing the users to observe themselves and surroundings from the camera’s POV in real time. Meantime, they are guided by audio instructions to perform certain task related to the artwork inspired this piece.

This will create the illusion of detachment from their physical body, and users will see themselves as a third-person video game character. This, however, is not virtual. What the users will see, feel, and hear will be reality itself.

Exhibited at Louvre Abu Dhabi, 2022.
